Standing out . . .

When I was sitting outside Marshall's Student Center watching people, enjoying the warm [dry] day - there was one tree that just stood out among all the brown. I now regret that I did not take more photos that truly showed the majestic appearance of this tree. Looking back, I have to admit that I didn't want to stand out. Students shuffling around, conference attendees mingling. I didn't want to be the crazy lady with the camera. Generally speaking, when behind a camera, I forgo my inclination to just fit in and shed self-consciousness about standing out. I lose myself in the task and forget that I'm out there - in public - where everyone can see - and everyone can wonder...what the >>>. My family is still a bit apprehensive about my persistence on taking pictures anywhere, any time. Sometimes they are cool with it, and sometimes they want anything but for me to stand out. Sometimes I agree.

  1. Wow--what a contrast against that blue sky! Do you know what type of tree it is? (I have times when I am a little reluctant to be the public photog, too...) I, too, am a JackFan.

  2. That's a gorgeous tree! And I'm the same way, when I'm shooting I forget about everything else. Sometimes that's good, sometimes not. ;)

  4. LOL. That is funny. I hate standing out in a crowd. But that's just me. I need to get over my phobia of looking like the crazy camera lady. :) I love the contrast of that second one. But the first one really caught my attention with the lamp post in the very bottom area. Nice!

  5. I love the second photo. That is one cool picture with the sky so blue and the tree so white! I'm not completely comfortable taking pictures in public either and usually feel like I'm skulking. I always think somebody is going to come up to me and say: "Ma'm, you can't take pictures here." And why that would be so awful I still can't figure out.

  7. Nicki: Hi, we've never met, but I found the link to your blog on another one, and am I ever glad I did! Beautiful pictures! My family is trained that if the sky is particularly beautiful, and we're traveling, and I yell, "PULL OVER!" that nothing is wrong, I just need that shot! They now just do it. LOL :)
