no more pets ...

We already have 3 cats - more than enough felines even with my degree of affinity towards animals. But then this one showed up outside. Repeatedly. So I did what every animal loving mother would do, I put out some food and water. And it came back. Repeatedly. I think it is a girl, and  hope and pray that she has been spayed. I strongly pray for spay/neutering of every cat I see outside.  Repeatedly. I am prepared to afford her the luxury of our garage come winter (which will anger Ike immensely), but am holding out hope that she actually belongs to the house a couple of doors down and is merely mooching morsels and fresh water.  It is a little concerning how comfortable she is getting and how accepting she is to the two furry faces that are glued to the door.  I don't think she even minds the occasional hissing from the big, chubby black/white indoor cat. (I think this might have more to do with Mary Jo's concerns that food is going out of the house and depleting her supply, and less to do with a strange kitty).  But check out that face - oh my.

(ps - The Husband saw this post in draft and made it perfectly clear that we have reached the acceptable allowance of pets.  No*More!)

  1. Poor you. It's a shame that there are pet owners out there that shouldn't be, and I only hope that she's a moocher (cat's have been known to do that) but as an animal lover, it must be hard to ignore such a face. Gorgeous photo. Maybe you can print it up and post it on a few telephone poles and see if anyone claims her....at least you'd know she has a home.

  2. Here is my trick...I just show up at my Better Half's office during office hours WITH a new pup in my arms. As his staff ooh's and ahhhh's I count on the fact that he is socially handcuffed and muzzled...so he can't say a thing about it. By time he gets home at the end of the day...he has had to think it was a losing cause on his end anyway :). Honestly tho, how could anyone resist that face in your photo?????? :)

  3. She is so beautiful! At our house she would be fully part of the family within 24 hours, even though with two dogs and two cats we don't need more. But show up hungry at my house, and you have a home for life unless someone comes and asks for you back.

  6. Lovely shot! We have a few cats that hang out in the alley. And the previous owners had a cat (and cat door); as we were moving in, a cat came in the house through the cat door! Crazy!

  7. That's just how we ended up with our cat Duchess, 5 years ago ;) She is absolutely adorable... I have a feeling we'll be seeing more of her!
