oh crap ...

Hello, my name is Nicki
and I curse.

early and often
but mostly when I am driving.

 especially when I'm driving.

I have to say that over the past 4 years I have pretty much wore out the delete/backspace/erase/removal of foul language key on the keyboard while writing many blog posts. I am not a sailor in my daily run-of-the-mill conversations, but when I turn it loose, I can really bring it. To my credit, neither of my children picked up this propensity for the use of colorful words. Well, except that time when we left The Girl with her Great-grandmother and at the ripe age of one and she greeted us at the door with an 'ohhhh shit!"
Little parakeet that one.
Grant it she has picked up a few while at college, but to be honest I would be concerned if she hadn't. Mostly though she is a well spoken young lady. As for The Boy, I'm sure he has used a word or two on occasion, but he is a smart enough to limit his use of inappropriate words for when he is with his peers where I am guessing they all talk like they're rappers on a SnoopDog/P.Ditty top 40 single.  If you don't believe me, just park outside a middle school at the release of classes and oh the language.  It would make a salty old sailor proud.  By the time they reach high school they are so fluent with it they could issue a Rosetta Stone program.

So why am I giving confessional on a Monday?
Mainly because I know a word has slipped once or twice lately and I fear that perhaps the etiquette force field might have a clink in the armor.  So you've been warned.

just saying!

  1. Oh... I have a small, slight problem with this also. About a year ago I was told that I am bit colorful with my word choices and I have improved but yeah, still a problem.
Also, I live with my dad. And when we are in the car hes not afraid to let loose (and okay outside the car he is too). Thank you for this post because it may very well help me out :)

  2. Conspicuous throat clearing noise here: I work in a criminal defense law office. "Slight" is not the word I would use to describe the amount of cursing that flies around here - from attorney (hubby), support staff (me) and clients (oh, boy, you don't want to know who some of them are). We do clean it up pretty well at home and at church, but once in a while a word or two slips out in the wrong venue. And I blush - bright red! So far our son (J-13) is confined to "Oh Crap!" which he finds satisfying and we find to be rather mild and fairly acceptable, but we do try to reduce the frequency of his use of even that.

  3. Ha! Laughing like crazy at this! And great editing of a keyboard!
I myself see cursing to be a wonderful talent of which I am totally lacking. . . . like being slightly color-blind. I am, apparently, curse-impaired. I can say "holy crap!", and an occasional "S***" (usually when spilling things, or computer issues, or especially when those events are combined.) Occasionally I try to pass off "frickin'" as grown-up cursing, but it's lame. Somehow, the words just don't roll out of my mouth proficiently, but I admire those who can really bring it. . . . *sigh* . . .guess I'll just have to console myself with the emphatic "crumb!" and hang my head in shame:(

  4. My mother was of the Literally-Wash-Your-Mouth-Out-With-Soap, so I never got into that habit, thank goodness! I've seen/heard some not-so-pretty spectacular slips in the wrong environment, and it makes me glad I don't have to worry about something inappropriate popping out. I am sure my mom's ghost would be right there with her soap if I did....
