song*ography | strawberry wine ...

I still remember when thirty was old
My biggest fear was September when he had to go
A few cards and letters and one long distance call
We drifted away like the leaves in the fall
But year after year I come back to this place
Just to remember the taste of strawberry wine and seventeen

Strawberry Wine | Deana Carter

"The Strawberry Lady will be here on Thursday"

Words that had most of the office staff watering at the mouth. I had never participated in the phenom of "The Strawberry Lady" but over the years had heard reference to her on the local radio stations.
Countdowns until "The Strawberry Lady".
Full morning commute conversations about "where is The Strawberry Lady?".
I was intrigued.
So when the e-mail went out in the office that The Strawberry Lady would be at specific location at a specific time on Thursday, I marked my calendar.
Time to debunk the myth or validate the hype.

Fast forward to Thursday at 10:00 a.m.
I made my way to the designated location (or there abouts) and patiently stood in line to collect some strawberrys from the back of a truck.
My first thoughts:
'is this legit?'
and
'uh, the lady is a dude'.
I suspect it is the lady of the trio who calls into the radio stations to announce where they will be located for distribution hence "The Strawberry Lady".  But it is two men with a white truck that deliver the goods.

The berries looked tasty enough, but would they live up to their reputation.
Let me tell you "YES, yes they do".
I can't remember tasting such a sweet strawberry. It's as if they've been injected with sugar. Gracious. So now I am the owner of 1/2 box of strawberries with no one else in the house even remotely interested. There will be pie, and shortcake, and toppings for granola, and chocolate dip. Some may survive to make it to the freezer for smoothies down the road.

Well done Strawberry Lady.  Well done!
(and better than strawberry wine)

  6. What a find. And that is awesome that we lived up to their reputation. I love that the lady was a dude.

  7. I love strawberries. A number of years back, I had a small patch. Our dog would go in there and eat the strawberries...always glad he wasn't injured, just "juiced". Nice photos!
