Paris in April ...

After totally blowing off doing a 'French for Dummies' refresher on bare-bone use of the language, my husband and I started second-guessing our decision to visit Paris in April. London had been so much fun with few language or navigation issues, we immediately regretted not booking a longer stay. Then, 2 days before we were to arrive in Paris, we got notice that our hotel reservations made 11 months earlier had been cancelled.  Any slither of optimism about that leg of our trip was living on borrowed time.  Despite being assured that they would rebook us in a 'sister' hotel, we disembarked the train to a herd of impressively armed police randomingly pulling people aside to inquire about their travel. One glance at each other, a collective sigh said it all,
"what were we thinking?".
 The 'sister' hotel turned out to be nice, our room had a view of the top of the Eiffel Tower, and the maitre'd could not have been nicer (or patient - he may or may not have had to open the tricky lock to our room on several occasions).
It didn't take much time before we began to wonder if perhaps we had cut our time in Paris a little short.
And talk about a photographers dream;
I could easily still be muddling around the streets taking pictures.

  4. Nicki, I loved seeing some of the pictures of items I remember from our trip to Paris. It rained the entire time we were there, so we couldn't even take a boat ride on the river. Still beautiful, however.

  6. Gotta tell ya, I had NO DESIRE to go to Paris. But my daughter did....so I took her reluctantly a few years ago. Boy did I LOVE Paris! So much so I insisted my husband HAD to go with me for his 50th birthday. And much to his surprise...he loved it too. Can't imagine how beautiful that city must be in the spring!

  9. Every single time we go to Europe, we ask ourselves if we're going to like this trip as much (never mind better) than the last one. Each one has been difference and defy comparison. And, yes, there are always pesky little issues that intrude on the fantasy, but the more we travel, the more we've come to understand that those issues are part of the experience. This isn't to say that we are crazy about the inconveniences, but we've come to accept them as part of the whole packet. I'm so glad you went to Paris. That's next up on my bucket list. Please continue to post about it. I'm eating it up like a yummy dessert!

  10. Ahh, Paris. Love, love, love that city. Wish I could have been there in the Spring instead of a very warm July. But still a fantastic time and I would go again in a heartbeat!!
