all but the memories ...

September October  nope - November.
Time gone just like that,
all but the memories captured in photographs.

For a change this past weekend I did more than just snap pictures with my cell phone, I took the time to pull out the big gun and the tidy little backpack of spare lenses she rode in on. Quickly I remembered how using a DSLR camera takes patience, thought, and commitment. It is not for the spontaneous at heart, challenging you to give some thought to light, focus, and settings.  I soon appreciated the depth to which I had gotten lazy and fat with contentment with my cell phone's insta-shoot, light weight, and portability.

This past weekend the law firm I work for had a family and friends weekend outing at the Stonewall Resort in Roanoke, WV.  The weather, the location, and the company could not be beat.

I was itching for some Autumn
(amid our recent outbreak of 60, no 80, no 60, err 80 degree weather)
and traveling slightly north in-state did not disappoint.

It being Halloween weekend, it only seemed reasonable to do historic and paranormal tours at the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum.

and if that wasn't festive enough
- once home, we finally visited the "Pumpkin House"

We had an absolutely beautiful weekend so it seems selfish of me to even mention the rain that commenced as soon as we parked and started making our way to the pumpkins.  To my surprise, I managed more pictures than I would have guessed in the steady down-pour, feeling like a drowned rat by the time we made our way back to the car.
But oh so worth it - and something I would definitely do again
(preferably on a week night when kids have to be home,
and when we have checked the forecast).

  1. What a gorgeous place to spend a weekend! Glad you had a reunion of sorts with your big camera!

  2. I completely agree about growth fat and lazy shooting with my phone. I had to relearn some things when I brought the big gun out again, but I love the variety I can get with my Canon and the various lenses.
