Note to parents . . .

of school aged children -
start looking at colleges NOW.
Seriously,
in order to spread out the cost of travel, hotel, etc. -
I recommend starting your campus visits now,
just video them for future reference - and take good notes.

But I warn you --- college selection is not for the faint of heart.
[2011 cmhs graduates-to-be]

2010 went down as one of our most traveled years as a family and I will cherish those memories for a life time. But it isn't over yet. Now we will be visiting several schools for over-night visits so the Girl can get a [real] feel for the campus. More road / air trips - whoopee! I say that tongue-in-cheek because I'm not complaining. Not for a minute. This decision is HUGE and we don't want to make it in haste, or without fully exploring the options because out of all the things we have done in her life to give her the best that we can - college selection ranks pretty darn high on the chart.

{oh, and by now - I mean NOW because it feels like I just took this picture yesterday!}

  1. Good luck with that! I know what a huge decision it is. We're lucky that Parker has made his choice and already has roommates lined up, too. :) Whew! Next fall, we'll have two in college! Yikes!

  2. Must be one of the hardest decision to take! And love the old shot!

  3. Ahhhhh, I am so relieved to be beyond this stage now! It is an exhausting process. I recently heard about an author who just wrote a book about the process, the stresses on parents, and his caution to absolutely stay away from the College Confidential site. . . unless you REALLY want to feel nuts! Looking back, I know he is right!

  4. I didn't know you could leave it so late over there! She is going to college this fall right? If I had applied, we have to choose our University about a year in advance. I would much much rather be in her position! Loads more time to choose! Good luck to her, and I know you will make the right decision but taking your time about it!

  5. Oh my gosh I am so scared of all that! And I only have two years and a couple months!
