the skill and art of photography . . .

photography, like so many outlets of artistic expression,
is viewed with a harsher eye by the creator
than by the created.

when I look at a lot of my work
I see its flaws, its cracks, its imperfections.
I opine that the lighting could be better,
the pose should have been just an inch or more the other way,
or the prop idea is all wrong.

I have to remind myself that it is a skill
that continues to develop,
and rarely goes from zero to 60 in a nanosecond,
unless you happen to be a savant,
which I am not.

So while I am struggling with finding that "golden" hour of evening natural light, I am getting closer. I have the concept down, I just have to work on the timing (travel time, placement of props, and getting my models together). Practice, practice, practice. My son keeps reminding me that I'm almost there. I love it when he is the voice of reasoning, especially when I see all the cracks, flaws, and imperfections of my work.
