In last week's episode of The Middle the parents were content with a Valentine's Day comprised of
* a bucket of chicken
* sweat pants
* separate rooms to watch sports and/or something non-sports
[high-five---"we've still got it!"]
...
that is, until they weren't
...
but in the end, they came around to the realization that the real romance of Valentine's Day is an accumulation of all the small things we do for those we love all year round.
As I explained to The Boy (who was feeling a little Un-Valentine yesterday)
I can still remember the Valentine's Days when I wasn't dating or married and yes, it can be a little depressing; in fact, his father and I have had our share of Valentine's Days when there was little more pomp-and-circumstance than a simple card and a kiss,
and we lived to tell about it - it wasn't the end of the world.
A gift is not always necessary to say you love someone or to feel loved.
...
and then his dad came in with a bag filled with his favorite chocolates and chips
and all was okay with the world (at least for a little while).
...
so yea, there is something to be said for a little bit of chocolate too
I am truly appreciative of this year's gifts.
truly!
Beautiful photos..but most of all...I am so impressed you only have ONE chocolate missing from that box :)

hehe! so true!
DeleteI'm also impressed that you only ate one chocolate? Or did you finish them off after taking the photo? Great post and so true about the little small things we do for those we love year round.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos! And lol, because I missed "The Middle" and that sort of sounds like our V-day-a bucket of chicken and sweats-and we were all happy, especially me cause I didn't have to cook!
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos! I really liked that episode of "The Middle." We are not the type to observe Valentine's Day in this household. Greg made it pretty clear a long time ago that it is a "Hallmark Holiday" and he wasn't going to buy in. But we are pretty nice to each other the rest of the year anyhow so I guess I am all right with that. I did have a little chocolate ice cream last night while watching the Westminster Dog Show. That made me happy since Greg brought it to me.
ReplyDeleteLoved the picture of the box of chocolates!
ReplyDeleteMy box of chocolates were gone way before a picture could be taken!!!
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty flowers. Chocolate is always good.
ReplyDeleteAlways nice to be remembered -- lovely gifts. :)
ReplyDeleteSuch true words Nicki! And I am amazed there is only one chocolate missing from the box! LOL!
ReplyDeleteVery true. Love is just a pinch away from pain, isn't it? Funny how all of these human emotions work.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos and words, Nicki :)
ReplyDeleteYou had all that chocolate left over the day after? What, did you split the middle piece of chocolate three ways? Notice how we are all fixated by the one missing piece of chocolate? Nicki, I'm beginning to worry about you . . .
