scavenger hunt Sunday ...

I quite enjoyed this week's scavenger hunt and managed to accumulate most of them by mid-week as opposed to scraping by at the last minute. Not that I would ever be running around on Sunday morning to finish off my list.
Never!

One of the bottles of oil with spices used purely for decoration. The set was given to my mom originally by my sister-in-law, and something I kept after mom passed away because I always admired it. I've often wondered what it would taste like - oil with the mixture of spices; but I don't think I'll give it a try with these.

Mom and Dad's wedding bands.
Mom quit wearing her's probably when I was still in grade school and instead wore an oval design with diamonds. Dad's had to be cut off his hand after a work accident and even though he got another, I don't think he ever really wore it for fear of another accident and the risk of losing a finger. I'm also guessing that he figured he didn't need a ring to remind him he was married to mom, she wasn't about to let him forget. They loved each other in spite of any appearance to the contrary from the nature of their banter. 'Darling' and 'Sweet Heart' were not terms my parents used to address each other - but deep down, they felt it
- ring or no ring.

When I saw the prompt for "fabric" I immediately thought of some material I found in the secretary desk I inherited from my grandmother. She was the epitome of utilitarian. If it didn't have a purpose in her opinion it was frivolous, almost wicked, and she didn't hesitate to inform you as much. Needless to say, I was not surprised to discovery that this fabric was destined to become pillowcases rather than a dressy blouse.

I would have loved to have photographed an elderly person for this prompt; the wrinkles and crevasses of their faces as testament to the happiness, sorrow, laughter, and pain of their life. I've secretly wanted to visit one of the local senior homes to photograph some of the residents, but haven't mustered up the courage..yet. Maybe one day.
In the meantime, I will use the Asian peg dolls my daughter bought at an antique / consignment store on one of our mother-daughter outings. I like how their eyes are pretty much at the same level as their nose/mouth. Such a simplistic depiction of their facial features.

And then there are the Willow Tree statues I have scattered throughout the house. Famously lacking any facial features, and none-the-less filled with expression.

you seriously didn't expect me to go too many posts without including Ike did you?

    1. Maria - I decided to participate in Ashley Sisk's scavenger hunt on her website rather than the one word (might still give the one word a go at some later day). So far it has inspired me to get my camera out and hunt - which I so often fail to due during winter months.
