Secrets
by Mary Lambert

I've got bi-polar disorder
My shit's not in order
I'm overweight
I'm always late
I've got too many things to say
I rock mom jeans, cat earrings
Extrapolate my feelings
My family is dysfunctional
But we have a good time killing each other

(side note:  I have cat earrings, am overweight, seem to be constantly running late, and arguable do not have my shit in order.  What's more, I dare you to show me a family that is not "dysfunctional" and I'll show you a family that is in denial.  Own it folks.  Own it!)

They tell us from the time we're young
To hide the things that we don't like about ourselves
Inside ourselves
I know I'm not the only one who spent so long attempting to be someone else
Well I'm over it

(I am intrigued with people who clearly want to stand out and do it beautifully by also fitting in.  This was snapped while in line at Starbucks at Disney.  Two people who found someone of like mind, with a uniquely shaped character, defying the standard round or square peg.   My family frowns upon it when I take pictures of people - but it is always because I find them interesting and more often than not, inspiring.  Yes, in some cases it is because they are "different" - but then I suspect the individuals I am photographing already know that.  The guy below was happy to have people take his picture.  He was completely comfortable in his own style and owned it proudly ... sadly, I had my hands full and could only get a passing cell-pic.)

I don't care if the world knows what my secrets are
 So-o-o-o-o what
So what

  3. OWN IT! Sooooo true. Once you own it, I think you actually start to shine a bit. I guess it's all about acceptance of yourself and finding comfort. Wouldn't the world be a boring place if we were all vanilla. Personally, I'd rather be "Chunky Monkey" and proud of it. Thanks for joining in at Song-ography! And you go girl..rock those cat earrings! :)

  6. Every single picture is a winner! And you are right about the fact that people who are different and proud and confident are very intriguing.

  7. Seems the older I get the less I care about what people think of me. Well...there has to be something good about getting old. Great snaps!
