Rather than sit and wait in our hotel room for Allyson to complete her pre-departure orientation, we decided to walk around and I, of course, photographed a few of the usual suspects.
the GOOD ...
US Capitol.
Visiting DC brought back memories from when I lived there in my early 20s when it was nothing to adventure around the Capitol or stroll through the various Smithsonian exhibits. On one such visit I accompanied my brother for a class assignment (he was a GW student) to sit in on a committee meeting with real live politicians. I don't remember the issue being debated, but I'll never forget the delicious crab cakes I had for lunch at one of the eateries in the Capitol following the meeting.
the RANDOM ...
Washington Monument.
... never gets boring.
the FUN ...
Lincoln Memorial
It's all fun and games until someone starts sweating.
"Like a pig." "Like a faucet."
Oy!
I always forget how hot and stifling this 'open' monument is until I get there
and within minutes I look and feel like I ran a marathon.

Still worth it.

and then there is that quaint little house view a view
Presidential Palace, Presidential Mansion
You may know it as "The White House"
Named 'The White House' after being painted white following the war of 1812 when the exterior was charred by the British army's attempt to burn the city down.

I enjoyed your visit :O)
ReplyDeleteI'd love to be able to visit there one day --especially the Smithsonian!
ReplyDeleteVery nice visit.
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteGreat shots. On my list of places to visit. Have a great day!
Love that first shot of the Washington monument with the flags - and that last shot of it...peeking over the {very secure} roof! (sorry I haven't been visiting as much - am jumping back in the groove - turns out I needed our vacation more than I knew and have taken some time to process since getting back!)
ReplyDeleteGreat pics of DC! I have to get back down there soon. We've talked about going to a Nats game, but it's too hot this time of year.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures! I also had delicious crab cakes on my visit and it was so crowded when we were there I could barely even get a view of good old Abe...felt like I ran a marathon by the time we managed to get around the 'mall.'
ReplyDeleteWhat a great walk around town! I adore the shot looking out from the Lincoln Memorial!
ReplyDeleteGreat tour around D.C.
