gotta catch 'em all ...

Pokemon, gotta catch 'em all
Its you and me
I know it's my destiny
Pokemon, oh, you're my best friend
In a world we must defend
Pokemon, gotta catch 'em all
A heart so true
Our courage will pull us through

You teach me and I'll teach you
Pokemon, gotta catch 'em all
Gotta catch 'em all

If you haven't heard about PokemonGo,

then chances are you haven't left the house or turned on the TV in the last month; and who can blame you with all the political rhetoric that is consuming the airways.

Pokemon captured our daughter's heart and imagination many many years ago, so I was a little curious. Nearly as fun as catching Pokeon is watching people, men and women, young and old, pass the office trying to catch Pokemon or Pokemon balls, making their way to the levy where they hope to challenge and capture more.

One of the ladies at the office argues that it is another example of the evil of modern technology hindering people's ability or willingness to be in the moment, preventing them from interacting with real people and real life. Maybe; but when I see so many people getting out, walking, talking and engaging with each other, I see it as more a sign of the times where technology is but a tool in their socialization.  It doesn't mean the next generation is incapable of going old school, (ie - giant checkers), but if it is already in your hands - how awesome to come up with a program that motivates exercise and social skills.

  3. I am torn on this. Yes, it gets them outside, but they are so focused on their screen that they still don't see the world around them. Also there are reports here of property being trampled, especially here, cemeteries in particular. Not cool! Respect still needs to be learned and honored.

  4. I see also many people, young and old - going about, talking and sharing tips on how to catch these, for others invisible creatures ... and many kids with social anxiety do also get motivated to go outside - so positive outcomes are to be found!
