shades of dull . . .

and so winter begins. dull, dull, dull. while I am not wanting more snow (otherwise these kids will be going to school through the summer to make up dates), I grow tired of the monotone brownness of winter quicker than you can snap your fingers. what makes it even more frustrating is trying to take portrait pictures outside. oddly enough, exposing to account for all the shadows is not made any easier by the dull gray skies. it can be as challenging as photographing mid-day in the summer. so, till I figure out portraits in natural light / outdoors, I'll stick to landscape pictures. this approach goes all Andy Warhol when applied to portraits.

  1. I love the black and white one here. There is something about trees in b/w that always speaks to me. I am really ready for some spring color though!

  2. I love the b/w one too. And I am so done with winter! I can't wait to get outside and take some pictures of my girls, the landscape, anything - without wearing a jacket, hat and gloves!

  4. Those are pretty! I'm sooooooooooo happy it's supposed to go back up to 70 degrees here on Thursday. I'm already way tired of winter.

  5. I get tired of Winter before it has even begun. Summer girl here. Why do I live in a country that has skies like a running tap?!?!
    Love the B&W.
Weirdly... today I was thinking of doing this EXACT (well almost) idea. Taking an image of the same tree in different seasons. Great minds think alike eh?!

  6. Oh wow---love love love what you did with that last shot! Gorgeous. And, we have skies like that all winter long....and a lot of the rest of the year, too. Bleh. It does, however, make for good lighting if the clouds aren't TOO heavy.

  7. That last shot's processing is fantastic! I remember (back in the day when we lived somewhere with real seasons) feeling the same way about winter's dullness, color-wise. Before you know it, though, spring will be knocking at your door!

  8. Hi Nicki,
Thank you for visiting my blog and leaving the very nice comment. I am just loving your photos. Binx is so cute, gotta love those black and white kitties. I like what you did with the tree trio and the food photos are wonderful. I especially like photographing food as well.
