TGIF . . .

I am looking forward to a wonderful birthday weekend with my little girl who will officially be eligible to vote and serve in the armed forces, but not drink or purchase alcohol.

At this point 18 years ago, I was pretty exhausted from spending the night at the hospital walking the halls desperate to get 'the show on the road' so to speak. She would have none of it, and after months of treating my insides like a trampoline, she wasn't about to budge an inch in order for me to complete the stress test and be released home where I hoped to sleep until the "real labor" started. (silly me, I had the misconception that when the contractions were less than 5 minutes apart and hitting the high notes on the monitor, that was "real" labor - but what did I know.) I also didn't know that this was an omen, a sign of what was about to come. A baby/child/adolescent/young lady who would do things on her own terms - when she was ready - and not a moment before.

Today started with very "ominous" skies which has transitioned to rain, strong winds, and dropping temperatures. I pray this is not an omen of what the weekend will entail because regardless of the weather - we are going to have a good time.

eighteen {gulp!}

  1. Oy--what a milestone!! It is good to have a strong-willed child, though, even though as parents he/she sometimes (?!) presents a challenge. Those strong-willed kids are much better equipped to handle the stresses and challenges of today's world...they aren't as easily swayed by peer pressure, the media, and everything else around them.

    Here's hoping that the weather turns out better than it looks and winter doesn't sock you again!!
