Weekend reality . . .

After endless miles of travel to visit college campuses; countless money spent on testing and application fees; and hours and hours and hours of essay battles - the results will come this weekend and next week. Will she be accepted or denied or wait listed. We are confident but guardedly so. Our daughter is a bright young lady; a child who approached Kindergarten with the intensity of a Rhodes Scholar with the single goal to learn as much as she possibly could and then figure out what the older kids knew. Somewhere in the process of her persistent questions, we have all become better educated, and completing the college application process has been a learning experience in-and-of-itself. It is a numbers game as much as a reflection on the student's skills. Akin to taking your child's academic record, standardized test results, and painfully extracted essays about nonsensical subjects and rolling them like dice, hoping the numbers are in your favor. I wasn't this nervous when I applied for college - but I suspect my parents were.

  1. Oh my gosh I am soooooooooo not looking forward to that! I was not nervous at ALL about applying to college, and I don't remember asking my parents for any help, although my mother remembers me asking her for help on an essay the night before it was due. Of course.

    Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. The Girl is going to do just fine! I laughed at your comment of becoming better educated through her school work. The same thing happened to us, and there are some grades that stick in my mind better than others. I know I've gone through 5th grade three times! For your sake, I hope the college question is settled quickly so you can relax.
