you'll miss me when I'm gone . . .

This morning, just slightly before the kids were to leave for school, the Boy asked if it might be possible for me to make him some cupcakes to take to school. It had occurred to him that today was one of his friend's birthday and he had mentioned he would bring her cupcakes. I don't specifically recall if I "lol" - or simply "l to myself", but upon regaining my composure, I asked him if he was serious. His response was to look at me like a deer in the headlights, so I went on to explain that it would take me a minimum of 30 minutes to get to town, shop and return. He would already be well on his way to school. Then, till I mixed and bake the cupcakes, let them cool, and apply icing - he'd probably be in 2nd mod. In short - ain't gonna happen! His response - "oh, okay." "You think you might make me some later today so I can take them to her tomorrow." Me: "absolutely!"

I am going to be sorry the day when my children no longer look at me like I am super mom, able to teleport from here to there and whip out a batch of cupcakes in a single bound. In deed, I will sorely miss them when they're gone.

  1. Oh my gosh I am SO SO SO not going to miss the "I need..." part of the day - 4:00, right when they get out of school is when it always happens for us. But maybe it just seems that way to me because I have a 23 year old stepdaughter at home, so children actually leaving home sort of has an air of fairytale. I will miss them, will miss THEM but NOT that time of day.

Beautiful, beautiful picture by the way!!!!

  2. That is a beautiful picture! Very funny story! I'm with Jill, though, because I'm still in the thick of it all with adult kids at home. lol That is so sweet of him to take cupcakes to his friend.
