we survived . . .

the East Coast earthquake and the college move !

If you count sitting at the computer with toothpicks holding my eyes open - then yes, we indeed survived. Was it smooth sailing? Not completely; but the things that really mattered went just fine. We had incredible weather, outstanding staff help with unloading the vehicle (which was packed with the aid of a shoehorn) and a relatively smooth transition from High School Graduate to College Freshman. I recognize that classes haven't started yet, and she is but a day into the process - but I was beside myself with happiness when I went looking to drop off some last minute room purchases, only to find our daughter having breakfast with classmates, chatting away with a group of girls, laughing, fitting in, content. I am not oblivious to the fact that there will be ups and downs to this process, but for right now to say I am pleased is an understatement, and when I read her text last night saying "I'm happy" - I was over-the-moon.

The shocking part of this trip/experience is there are almost no pictures. I left the camera in the bag to 'experience' this major event - something I won't need pictures to remember.

The trip home was even longer than the trip there (which almost never seems the case).

And with the radio turned off, we had no clue of the earthquake until a family member texted me asking if we were okay.

  2. I've been thinking about you; I figured your absence meant that you were doing the college drop-off thing. So glad to hear that so far-so good, and that she is making friends and happy to be there. Hope you continue to do well in the days to come.

  3. Glad you are ok! Actually, I'm quite oblivious to the real world especially in the summers. I'm always going..."WHAT?...that happened?!"...like days or even weeks after the event! LOL.. A good thing to be busy I suppose. Anyway, I love that first shot..I wish I could transport myself to that boat right now, with the week I've been having! And SO happy that your baby is transitioning well into college life. It's not easy as I remember, but having good friends is key!

  4. I'm glad you got to watch your daughter mingling and fitting in. It really gives a mama piece of mind to see that they're ok on their own. Not that I have a college student, but I peek in the preschool door often lol. I'm glad your ok and didn't notice the earthquake!

  5. Good to have you back :) Even better to know you have some peace of mind as your daughter settles in to school! I've really like the processing on these last few shots you've posted; very dreamy.
