leaving a mark . . .

In an earlier post I included a photo from one of the ceremonies held at Wellesley College during the Family & Friends Weekend. It is conducted each year by the Sophomore Class, where a tree is planted and marked with an engraved stone. A lasting mark of their presence, and a symbol of their endurance, strength and growth.

It is very interesting to see what trees were planted by what classes, as well as where they were planted.

  1. What a wonderful tradition! My father had a saying (which I keep meaning to somehow incorporate into a blog posting - maybe next Spring) that in order to have lived a full life, you had to do three things: Plant a tree, have a child and write a book. I've got so much to do yet! Tell me, what happens if a tree dies? Is it replaced with another one?

  2. I wondered the same thing Maria - I'm not sure, but will ask.
