Common Grackles
large and in charge
at a glance they are black, until the light hits them the right way
and the color just pops.

I don't recall seeing so many of these in years before, but this year they are all the rage.
My mother-in-law hated grackles and we used to laugh at her because she had a grackle dance to scare them away from her bird feeders. I don't have any resentment toward them. They are just trying to make a living like everyone else. And they do have some beautiful feathers on them. Your pics show them off to great advantage.
ReplyDeleteI've got a bunch in my yard, too!
ReplyDeleteIt is so fun to find something special in an ordinary thing. I always think I am more observant when I have my camera around my neck.
ReplyDeletethey may be all the rage, but they don't impress me at all...dirty, they poop in the birdbath and they hog the bird-feeder. But I gotta admit if I didn't have a pre-disposed opinion I might think yours was a beauty (might).
ReplyDeleteWell, yours are beautiful - but I don't like them for hogging the birdfeeder. The ones around here never seem to "catch the light" as well as yours! Lovely photos - the first one is so soft and ethereal.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful bird, Nicki - a new one to me... such a rich birdlife you have around you! You've created a piece of art composing the first Picture, and adding the tecture - lovely!
ReplyDeleteWonderful capture of the color!!!
