sign sign everywhere a sign | song*ography ...

SIGN
~ Five Man Electrical Band ~

Sign, sign, everywhere a sign
Blockin' out the scenery, breakin' my mind
Do this, don't do that, can't you read the sign?

[Laguna Beach, CA.]

This song was penned back in the '70s but I find myself humming the chorus on a regular basis.
For example: when I pass the stretch of flowers by the highway that now bears the sign "natural flowers".  Who cares if they are weeds or planted.
The ridiculous signs that tell us our coffee is "hot".  (Thank you idiot lady who spilled coffee on her legs and sued because it was "hot".)
and so on
and so forth.
We no longer think for ourselves and blame someone else when we do something "stupid".
Common sense has become a lost art.

{but thankfully there are no longer signs that read "long haired freaky people need not apply".}

oh, by the way ...
Is it me, or does that look like a mountain climber on the tsunami sign?

  1. On the tsunami sign that's a person in harms way running for the high ground.

  6. Natural flowers? Really - as opposed to artificial? :) I don't think I've noticed that one.
Is that a guy in a suit? Pretty spiffy for beach wear.
Great sign and I too like the edit.

  7. Awesome processing! Waterlogue? I guess you are supposed to climb the waves in case of tsunami. That's one of those pretty much useless signs -- but amusing!

  8. Mountain climber! They put a bunch of signs in the park I walk in..too many, yes, they do block out the scenery for me!

  9. Ha ha! Great point. There are often "should go without saying" kind of signs. Usually an indication of some litigious person of the past.

  10. You said what I think. All the time. Great post!

  11. Looks like you can't do much at that beach with all the "No's" there but I know rules are needed. That man did look sort of like a mountain climber. I guess a huge wall of water would be like a mountain.
As for the long-haired freaky people...I do think people do need to take a little more pride in how they look. Seriously I've seen people grocery shopping in the Pajama's, bathing suits, etc...and well it just makes me feel that they don't really care how they look. I'm not saying everyone has to be dressed in a 3 piece suit or anything like that but they could at least try not to look like they just rolled out of bed.

  13. I agree on your statement that Common sense has become a lost art. Dutch people seem to love signs even when it says "If you want to rest and have a cup of coffee, follow the signs." And when you finally arrive there, an other sign say "sorry we're closed ".

  14. Wouldn't it be easier to ban anything with wheels. Indeed, he is a mountain climber, escaping the waves to high ground.

  15. Haha....it DOES look like a mountain climber! I don't know, I think I would have an unsettled feeling in the pit of my stomach if I happened upon a "tsunami" sign! That is soooo out of context for me! Thanks for joining in at Song-ography.
