whazzup! | Random 5 Friday...

Some little known {random} facts:
(5 to be precise)

1.  You might have noticed that the header has been on a constant rotation for the past 6 months.  It has been changing with the seasons and in secret - trying to find its identity, the "right" fit.  Both personally and blog wise, I am striving for something cleaner, less cluttered, something more specific.

2.  I initially started this blog to post pictures for participation on a photography chat room board hidden among the clutter on a scrapbook site.  At the time the forum was comprised of experienced as well as beginner photographers sharing not only 'how to' instructions but inspiration and support.  It was the perfect place to grow my DSLR knowledge and skills.

3.  "Bended Road Photos" came about when I needed a login - it would be my "10/4 Rubber Duckie" handle so to speak, my cyber identity, and eventually the title for this blog.  Leading up to that point my exposure to the internet had been passive, limited, and riddled with the fear that sharing "real" information about myself could only lead to bad things. Suddenly I had to make a choice: 'do I make up something' or 'do I use my real name'.  Ultimately I compromised between the two: I picked a title derived from the fact that I live on a street with 'bend' in the name, located down a country 'road', with the intention of sharing 'pictures'.  Over time I would sign images with my real name.

4.  Needing an image to pair-up with my new self-imposed identity, I picked one of the hills in the neighborhood.  It had two trees, a path, and a rail-fence.  There was something about its composition that spoke to me and the location served me well .  For years I photographed it in different seasons, with different textures and edits, and in various stages of disrepair.  The rail-fence was systematically removed, the grass went un-mowed for a stretch of time, and then in 2012, a spec-house was built that would block my "usual" view.
The message was clear - it was time for change.

5.  Speaking of change - 'mama needs a new pair of shoes'.  The D7000 will be going to college (along with several lenses and probably the flash) so it appears a new camera is on the horizon.
The price tag has me tiptoeing the subject, but I must confess, it is with a smile.

perhaps not as random as weeks past
... but now you know ...

  3. I LOVE that you let us in on a little more you! It is fascinating to me how one comes into the blogging world and titles are picked and headers are made. I like your analogy on the trees, and the house being built and it's time for change. Clearly you pay attention to what's going around you. I personally Love this header. That cat w/the SMILE charm right next to it gets me every time. I actually have that camera charm too. I think your'e doing a fabulous job of navigating through this blogging experience!

  6. I liked the Irish header of a few days ago but I think your present one is more about you. I absolutely love it!
It was nice reading about the 'before' one with the tree. We have some similar reasons for the headers we've chosen. Mine is set up for why I started and I've been very reluctant to change it.
Son goes to college, Mom gets a new camera - not a bad trade off. :)
    WV has sun- yeah- enjoy!

  7. Loved reading about your blog journey - so interesting! I've always loved the view of the hill / trees that comprised your header for many years. I'm constantly behind on my blog headers (still on the month of February!), so maybe it's time to do away with that monthly rotation....
As for a new camera.... squeal! I'm going to put my two cents in (and feel free to disregard) and say - go Full Frame. I truly believe I don't need to buy another camera for many years - that's how much I love mine....

  12. You must see this book: That Tree (That Tree : An iPhone Photo Journal Documenting a Year in the Life of a Lonely Bur Oak). It is about a guy who photographed the same tree for a year. I love the photo you have for your header now. I would love a copy of the two trees to use in my art journal. Is it possible to buy a copy?

  13. I loved this post. A glimpse inside your life. My Canon XTi went to college the first year, so I got the Canon T2i, now the XTi stays home and she happily uses her iPhone. Thankfully my husband has decided to shoot with me when we travel so he uses the XTi.
Once I get a header I like, it stays a long time, probably too long, that is on my too do list for the second quarter of 2014.
