sign of the times | little things Thursday ...

"how did it get so late so soon?"
- Dr. Seuss

I love Autumn, I really do, but I am just not ready to say goodbye to summer.
A weekend of yard work will likely change my attitude.

Also this weekend is our first home game for the local university.
I must confess that I am not especially looking forward to this.  After 21+ years of sitting beside the same group of people, the university in their infinite wisdom decided to put all season tickets up for bid.
(heck of a way to say "thanks for supporting us all these years!")
We were able to keep our seats.  We just found out last evening that our friends were not as fortunate.
Every * single*  home * game until the last whistle blows,
 including play-offs and championship games
- we sat beside this family.
They saw me through 2 pregnancies, the loss of my parents, and kids leaving the nest.
We mourned the loss of their parents and cousin (who at one time sat in the seats in front of us), and enjoyed their boys going from youngins to starting families of their own.
It has always been more than just a game - but also reconnecting with friends.
They had a Nicki.
We had a Nicki.

Loyalty means nothing.

I'm bummed!

  1. Oh my gosh...so not fair! On the other hand I won't be seeing red like that for quite some time. It was almost like there was no summer, with feel like temps in the triple digits nearly all summer, add in some humidity. I looked like the wicked witch, always melting! lol
