little things thursday | woes me ...

It is a common experience that a problem difficult at night
is resolved in the morning after the
committee of sleep has worked on it.

John Steinbeck

Worry solves nothing, but as I am so darn good at it, it would seem a shame not to do.
Worry that is.
~
We are readying our daughter to make her return to college for the last time.  Something I repeat not because of senility but to in some way reconcile its reality.  She will be embarking on the finale of her long and illustrious academic career (for the immediate foreseeable future).
The chapter where in earnest she must tackle the daunting task of becoming an adult.
Where patience will be tested,
independence redefined,
and hopes and dreams pressed thin.

Worrying about any of it will do no good.
still ...

I give myself very good advice, but I very seldom follow it.
Alice In Wonderland

  1. I laughed at the Alice in Wonderland quote ... isn't that the truth?! No matter how old they get, they are still our "little" ones. Good luck to all! Love your images ... trees and moon and gorgeous texture.

  5. I love that photo...very pretty. Transitions are hard for both kids and parents. I give in to worry way too much. No wonder it is mentioned so often in the Bible.

  6. Lovely photos - so rich in their textures and layers. Oh, it is so hard not to worry, but in the end it will be alright.
That Alice in Wonderland quote is classic and just so true....

  8. Love your post. It's kind of bad when you don't follow your own good advice. We all had to stand on our own two feet at some point, right? No worrying today, my dear.

  9. I have definitely walked in those shoes and once you're a mom you never stop being concerned over your "babies"....You've given her roots and now it's time for the wings to open. Both of you will be fine and you will be so proud of the woman she will become because of your love and encouragement...That first shot is absolute stunning....

  10. I'm with you. Im GOOD at worrying...why abandon a God given talent? :). I know it doesn't help, but that knowledge has never stopped me.

  11. Worring good...that's a full time job!! I am not a big worrier now, but college is a different story!! I worried well, when they were in college....it gets easier!!

  12. I thought of this so much while Mallory was home at Christmas. This was her last Christmas break. There will never be a month long vacation from school, from life, to just go out for lunch and go to coffee shops and go shopping. But we raised them to venture forth. I am not worried about her getting a job. I am worried about how far away it will be.

    1. Exactly. Allyson has an interview to return to Japan. JAPAN! Somehow her year there for study abroad was so different - but this, well this is real(er).
