"Butterfly"
~ Mariah Carey ~

When you love someone so deeply
They become your life
It's easy to succumb to overwhelming fears inside
Blindly I imaged I could
keep you under glass
Now I understand to hold you
I must open my hands
and watch you rise

**
I am finding this to be the case with raising children as well;
fighting the urge to dictate, control, prevent, and shelter,
versus opening my hands and letting them
flutter
fly
and hopefully rise
(and not lose it when they initially free fall before getting air under their wings).

  2. Great post. It is very difficult letting your children go. You first instinct is the protect them from everything. Beautiful pictures.

  4. Ah. That free-fall. Who knew that the letting go part would be so hard/complicated/take-so-long!!??! Every time I think "I've got this" or "I've let go" something tugs at me all over again..... But when they're flying it's all so worth it!

  5. Well, you know you had me at butterfly! It is hard sometimes to know when to say something or bite your lip-but I figure, im going to cover all my bases, so it never comes backs as "why didn't you tell me?)!!!!

  6. Lovely shots. My husband and I were just talking about a mother's heart and her need to protect last night. Feel you!

  7. Loved your pictures, the song, and the observations about letting go of children. Mine are all moving along rather smoothly at the moment, but you never know when they, like me, might fall a bit. Hopefully they are strong enough to rise back up.

  9. The first macro shot is just stunning! I struggled so much with letting my kids grow up. What's great is that now, living in other states, they still call to talk over things and ask for advice. You can let them "fly away" but know that they will love and cherish you as Mom even when they're grown.
