oh bother! . . .

I spent way too much time on this project.
Thinking about it,
hunting for a tutorial that I thought I had saved about it,
and creating a concoction that would allow me to hopefully accomplish it.

But having no luck finding the tutorials,
and roughly applying some of the steps I vaguely remembered from the posts about it,

I failed.
miserably.

conclusion: this is MUCH harder than it sounds,
and it takes a patient, second hand to pull it off.

well, at least in this house it does.

  1. OH I feel for you. I tried this a few weeks ago and it took the help of my husband to get my focus. Then it took me some time to figure out that IF I watched the drip forming and then when it dropped hit the shutter release (I used a wireless release). Even with that I was not pleased with my results. I may try again some day.

  2. One weekend several years ago I bet I took 300 shots trying to get one in focus. I was using the kitchen faucet and the sink filled w/water.

Here's the link to the tutorial thread:

  3. Ohh, how frustrating.
I can relate, though I haven't tried this particular challenge.

Good for you for sticking with it.

  4. I REALLY want to try this but I don't have a flash :(
I don't think you failed miserably at all! I think you were pretty close! Keep going at it, I can't wait to see where you take it!

  6. Never tried this, but I imagine my success wouldn't even be this good! I love the color you used for the background. And you did get a shot!

  7. That does look like failure to me! It's really pretty!

I think HLIP already steered you the right way, but is this what you were after? Simple water droplet tutorial

  9. I used the same tutorial that Jill linked you to. It took a while and a lot of shots, but I eventually got the hang of it. It sure was fun trying, and I can't wait to give it another go. I don't think you failed at all!
