brave | song*ography ...

"Brave"
 ~ Sara Bareilles ~

You can be amazing
You can turn a phrase into a weapon or a drug
You can be the outcast
Or be the backlash of somebody’s lack of love

Or you can start speaking up

Nothing’s gonna hurt you the way that words do
When they settle ‘neath your skin
Kept on the inside and no sunlight
Sometimes a shadow wins

But I wonder what would happen if you
Say what you wanna say
And let the words fall out

Honestly I wanna see you be brave

Everybody’s been there,
Everybody’s been stared down by the enemy
Fallen for the fear
And done some disappearing,
Bow down to the mighty
Don’t run, just stop holding your tongue
Maybe there’s a way out of the cage where you live
Maybe one of these days you can let the light in

Show me how big your brave is

And since your history of silence
Won’t do you any good,
Did you think it would?

Let your words be anything but empty
Why don’t you tell them the truth?

 Say what you wanna say
And let the words fall out

Honestly I wanna see you be brave

~*~*~*~

The first time I heard this song it was through a link on a young lady's blog.
I knew immediately that I wanted to purchase it
which in this house is a race to the remaining iTune bucks because of a certain teenager.

It is inspiring and motivational.
It is true.
It can be hard to be true to who you are for fear of what others might think or how they may react
but in the end, unless you are, you will live a life of lies and perpetual fear.
Sometimes you just have to dance like no one is looking in the face of the fact that everyone is doing just that.
...

If you ever wondered what happens when the Rose Parade is over
this is it.
Following the final float there are tow-trucks
(which I jokingly said was notice to the spectators that their parking permit had officially expired.)
{not really, they are for the floats}

Then it is a free-for-all.
From poster-board signs to make-shift floats.

March down the street
Say it

be brave

  4. Fascinating photos! I've been to the Rose Parade, and I've been to see the floats in the staging area. But I've never seen this interesting after-parade part. Perfect for this song!

  6. You captured some interesting street photography here.
I wonder how many people actually stick around to witness this. It's certainly different. I believe we all should be able to say what we want but at some point we need to examine if what we want to say is really necessary or beneficial or just our selfish desire to be heard no matter who it may hurt in the process. Didn't mean to get so "preachy" but I just don't always think that people think before they speak if you know what I mean. I did enjoy your photo's and interpretation of the song though.

  8. Hi Nicki, The song, together with your pictures, gave me goosepumps just touching ... the indian-dressed and holding the sign, just people, their faces, walking for a cause - wonderful photos!
